My x husband and I had guardianship of a child for 14 years and then he was diagnoised with a terminal illness and to ensure the child received his benefits we began adoption proceedings. Unfortunately he passed away before the adoption became final. On july 21 ,2006 the court granted the adoption but would not allow my x husband to be the adoptive father. Can anything be done to change this so he can be listed as the adoptive father? He indeed was the father and supported the child since birth.

What does this mean? Who was the child adopted by?

Not unless he was legally the child's father and it sounds like he was not

He indeed was the father and supported the child since birth.

Sorry that means nothing in the courts.
