I was adopted in the state of Missouri during the 1950's - the adoption records are sealed in this state. My question is twofold:
1. If my biological parents are deceased can I find out who they are if my adoptive parents give consent?
2. Am I entitled legally to any estate that may be left by my biological parents?

First, I would suggest that you register with the International Soundex Reunion Agency in NV, they will give you a questionaire to fill out and if your biological
parent(s)are registered with them, they can match the two of you up. If you are looking to reunite with them, there is alot of helpful hints at http://www.adoption.com as well as a wealth of information. You can ask for any non-identifing information from the agency from which the adoption took place, this may help you with medical background, etc. You are an adult, therefore, you do not need your adoptive parents permission to search/receive information.

Your second question, now, I'm not sure about this, so maybe someone else would be able to tell you for sure, but it is to my understanding that because you are no longer "legally" a realative of your bio-parents, you are not entitled to their estate unless they have it in their will that could entitle you to their estate, portion, etc.

Good luck and feel free to write again if you have any more questions.

Robin
