Adoption Agency Misconduct I am a birth mother who has recently been contacted by her birth son. Last February the adoption agency was looking to get in touch with me. My birth son, at the time, was having some medical complications. They contacted my mother to locate me. She convinced the adoption agency that contacting me was not a good idea and took it upon herself to provide an inaccurate and bias letter regarding my medical history. The information she provided was forwarded to his doctors and his adoptive parents. This information was received without hesitation, confirmation or my consent. This information possibly could have lead to the wrong-diagnosis and treatment. She admitted to me that she also received non-identifying information pertaining to my birth son.
I am both outraged at her and the agency.
I need your help in finding out what laws have been breached here. How could the agency accept information about me from my mother for medical treatment pertaining to my birth son, without my consent? Why would they even listen to her, when she suggested not getting in touch with me? I have maintained contact with the agency all these years, providing new addresses and telephone numbers. Further, in the paperwork the adoption agency sent to me, they stated that "non-identifying information is to be released only to the biological parent."
Could you please suggest an avenue for me to pursue? I will eventually discuss this with my birth son and his parents, but we have just connected. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! |
