Adoption and Children Collection Social Security

What is the name of your state? Ohio

Can a child continue collecting social security for a parents death after the child has been adopted by the step parent? Also, does this make a difference in the state of Michigan? The social security is through the state of Ohio and the child is living in Michigan. Does the parent (mother or father) that is deceased make a difference in this case?
