adoption by a family member

What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? NC
My 18 yr old nephew lives with me and wants to go to college. I have been informed that i will have to adopt him to get aid. He works and it totally reliant on me how can i go about adopting him.

Why can't he apply for financial aid on his own? Talk to a financial aid counselor at the school he wishes to attend. I very much doubt that you need to adopt him in order for him to be eligible for financial aid.
