Adoption of my daughter

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Montana

My husband of 10 years would like to adopt my daughter, do I need a lawyer to do this or can I do it myself. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

it's always best to get an attorney. this is not something you want to risk leaving a loophole over.

The biggest "ditto" ever.

The last thing you want, OP, is Dad coming back and having the adoption overturned because someone forgot to cross a "t" or dot an "i".

It's worth the investment in an attorney. Seriously.

What is the situation with the father? Is there a legal father?

She is 16, I have not heard from her biological father since she was a year old and have no idea where he is.

i'd still get the attorney. however given that fact that dad has be found, paternity to be established, then paternity to be disestablished, then for the adoption to take place....it may take the full 2 years for daughter to be 18. at that point, she can have stepdad adopt her without dad's consent.
