Adult Adoption: Please Help!!!!!!!

What is the name of your state? South Carolina

I want to adopt an adult who lived with my wife and me as a child in Maryland. She is now 20 years old and has 2 young children. When she lived with me she was 16 years and had a 1 1/2 year old daughter.

She is going through a rough time and I recently reconnected with her after a couple of years. She moved to SC to stay with me and try to get her life straightened out.

I would have just filed the petition for an adult adoption but I am going through a separation as well with my wife. I don't want to do this alone.

I tried to find a lawyer who would help us and frankly after 10 tries I figure there has to be a better way. I had one lawyer out of the 10 say they might take it for $3500. I am a member of pre-paid legal and they thought this would take either me filing the petition alone or hiring an attorney for $500.

I really want to do this but frankly I am overwhelmed but not getting much advice and how simple the SC code is on this.

Please help!!!

I don't understand what the complication is here. Adult adoption is an incredibly simple thing. 500.00 seems about right if you are hiring an attorney.
