What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia
I am an adult who is contemplating adoption by a couple that have been like parents to me for the past 15 years. My biological parents are deceased. I have done some preliminary investigation and have found that: 1) Ties with my original parents will be severed; 2) My birth certificate will be changed; and 3) I am not required to change my name. My questions are: 1) How do these changes affect social security? Do I need to notify them? I do not plan to change my name. and 2) How does this impact my siblings? I have an excellent relationship with them ( 1 sister, 2 brothers)...will I still be considered legally "family" with them? Lastly - Are there any potentially detrimental considerations of which i should be aware before proceeding? Thank you so very much for your help!!!
