Alabama Adoptions without Probate Court

Are there any cases in Alabama in which an adoption has been recognized in which the adoption was not filed in a probate court? My Adoption Papers are lost and no records have been located in Probate Court. What can I do? The lawyer who did the papers is now deceased and both adoptive parents are deceased.
