| "this is not a step parent adoption" We adopted our daughter from Eastern Europe almost 4 years ago. My DH and his ex had a bancrupcy before we met (maybe 8 years ago). So, YES, one can do an unrelated adoption if there is a bancrupcy several years in the past.
