Question

Boyfriend wants to adopt

My daughter's biological father was never named on her birth certificate. I have not been able to locate him in four years. My daughte is now eight years old. He has not attempted to contact us or pay child support. His family is not willing to cooperate. My boyfriend and I are engaged. But he would like to adopt my daughter before we are married. Can he do this in the state of Michigan?

For your boyfriend to adopt your child, he must be your husband first...The state wants to ensure stability for the child.

Side note: MHO- Although nowadays can marriages be considered stable with the rate of divorces being what they are?
