Without more specific information, please understand that the following response is really nothing more than a "shot in the dark."
The only time I've heard of an adoption being reversed is when the adoptive parents were able to prove "fraud" by an adoption agency. And, this is extremely rare. Anything less than fraud, you're stuck.
However, on the bright side, the kid is 18, and is now an adult. You're no longer financially responsible for him - - except under certain extreme circumstances.
In 99.99999 percent of the circumstances, once an adoption is complete, "permanent parentage" is set in granite, and is non-reversible.
