Change birth certificateWhat is the name of your state? Virginia I apologize in advance for being lengthy. My father was in the Navy and my mother a citizen of New Zealand. They married, had us 3 daughters, divorced when we were 7,5,4 yrs old. My father got custody, married his high school sweetheart 3 months later, we moved. My step-mother adopted us under abandonment by my real mother. A lot of drama, my mother advises she couldn't find us. Anyway, we three sisters would like to change our birth certificates back to reflect our real mothers name on it. Two of us were born overseas on military installations, and the youngest was born in CA. The adoption for all of us took place in TN in 1986.My younger sister,26, is trying to move to New Zealand to live with my mother but needs the original birth certificate to establish citizenship by descent, which my father and natural mother do not have (We think my step-mom ripped it up with glee). I have contacted the Department of Internal Affairs in New Zealand regarding establishment of descent (birth) but it all comes down to the original birth certificate. I think these records are sealed because it was an "adoption" So... How do we change the name back to reflect our natural mother? Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance. Shelly PS- I probalbly did not need to tell you all that but it is all so complicated. What is the name of your state? |

| Has Mom tried writing to the vital records office in CA that would have issued the birth certificate for a duplicate copy?

| You would simple petition for a Name Change for an Adult. That would change your NAME, but it will NOT change who is listed as your MOTHER.
