Changing a birth certificate

What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? Alabama

My birth certificate does not list a name for father. I was raised not knowing of my real father and told that another man was my father. At age 16 I met my real father (I will be 21 in three months). I've met him maybe 3 times in the last 4 years and I don't feel that I have any special bond with him at all. He has never provided any sort of parental support (monetarily or otherwise). I wish for my birth certificate to list the name of the man who actually raised me since birth. Does this require that he legally adopt me?
