chg birth cert 13 yrs after step parent adoptionWhat is the name of your state? OK I had 2 children in MS and divorced their biological father. He signed a termination of rights and my current husband adopted them approximately 13 years ago. We would now like to change their birth certificates to reflect their adopted father's name. How do I go about doing this? Can I do it without hiring an attorney? Our budget is extremely tight. Thanks! TaMara |

| No, most states have a way to request a new vital record following adoption. It shouldn't cost more than a few filing fees. Call your state's vital records office and ask the filing procedure. We changed our kiddo's BC ourselves without an attorney, just followed the filing requirments. http://www.health.state.ok.us/program/vital/
