cont'd from step parent adoption

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Louisiana

Continuing from previous thread..

I had said that I wanted my daughter to have my husbands last name..that's all... I did mean that I wanted him to be her legal guardian as well.

Like I had mentioned before, her biological father is currently in jail until next month in Florida. We have been in Louisiana for a lil over 3 years now.

I was getting child support through Florida.

If we wanted to go ahead and proceed with having him sign over his rights (which he is willing to do)-Do we have to go through the Florida court system, or We can get a lawyer and take care of everything over here in Louisiana?

Hire an attorney in Louisiana as that would have jurisdiction over the adoption.

Well as far as the thread being locked...I didn't know why..I'm new to this. I understand that if I hire an attorney-It will be a little pricey-thank god income tax season is right around the corner. Can you let me know an estimate of how much this will cost?

You say you only want to change last name but in same post say you want father to give up his rights so um which is it? Name change or adoption?

It would be to have the biological father sign over his rights, so that my husband can adopt my daughter and have his last name. My daughter currently has my maiden name as her last name. She sometimes asks why she doesn't have the same last name as us (meaning me, my husband and her siblings). The biological father had agreed to terminating his rights because he knows once my husband adopts the child, He won't have to pay child support anymore.
