Contested adoptionWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Georgia Well, it seems the bmom is now officially, contesting the adoption. We've been raising the child for over 19-months without support and sparse contact. The birthmom answered the summons from the attorney with out-right lies. Of course, it took her 37-days to respond to a document, that required an answer within 30. It seems the bmom was told by her attorney, that she did in fact have to support her child, so we got a money order today for a whopping $100. (Of course, the other child in another family member's home, still hasn't received a dime.) Will a court look at this as an actual attempt to support a child or just something that someone's trying to do to stop the adoption? (It was made out in my name with nothing written in the memo part of the money order, if that information helps. Also, it came 40-days after the adoption was filed.) |

| Is this a stepparent adoption? If it is they may just consider that money a "token payment" meening it really meens nothing in the grand scheme of things. Especially if it was sent after adoption papers were filed. It really all depends on the judge and how much contact the mother has shown the child in the past. The judge will look at the whole picture not just the one payment. Bio parents don't seem to realize that judges see this stuff every day where parents don't really want to be a parent until someone else wants to be their parent. It's a selfish thing and the judges see that. Good luck to you, and don't let this little check make you think its not going to happen. |

| Hello Crystaly, No, this isn't a step-parent adoption, it's a regular adoption. This money did surprise us, because even the birthday/Christmas gifts are usually between $2.50 and $5.00. (No, I'm not being petty, she's left the price tags on the items.) Thank you for your help. Her responses to the adoption paperwork were also dripping with lies. We can prove she lying, because we've got not only hard evidence, but witnesses to this. Thanks again, Mom2J |
