Actually, what he really needs is to consult an adoption attorney in TX. In some states adult adoptions cannot be done at all. In many others adult adoptions cannot be done without terminating the parental rights of BOTH of the parents listed on the BC. Since the original poster does not want to terminate the child's mother's rights, I think it would be better served for him to consult with a local adoption attorney.

Adult adoption in Texas is fairly easy. My question is basically is this the best way to achieve my desired goal. Of course seeking the advice of counsel is the best option, it is also the most expensive and honestly would negate this entire forum! Looking for someone who has had a similiar experiance.

Personaly, I'm not sure what the point is. There is nothing you cannot do now that an adoption will allow. You can give her power of attorney (legal or medical), have her named as an authorizing person on HIPAA paperwork, make her an executrix of your will, leave her all your earthly goods, call her "daughter" (and she can call you "Dad"), etc. What do either of you think the adoption gives you that you can't already do?
