Question

do we get a copy of final papers?

What is the name of your state? new york just a quick ? for anyone we are going thru an uncontested step parent adoption for my husband's daughters. We recieved the initial papers to sign and notorize so the birth mom and step dad can proceed w/ the adoption our ? is will we recieve a copy of the final papers, can we request them ? the only lawyer involved is the birth mom and step dad's since state garnished bio dad's wages years ago we are afraid that they will continue if no one notifies them and we have no proof of adoption. any help would be great

You should get something stating that bio-dad is no longer responsible for the child. Now, not to scare you or anything, but my brother-in-law was fighting and fighting with his ex to see his daughter, finally gave up and signed his rights away and her step-dad adopted her, and he STILL has to pay child support because he didn't make sure in the adoption papers that it said the was no longer responsible for the child. Now, I know I am in a different state, but it would still be something to look into.

My husband did the same thing he gave his kids up also to their stepdad. My husband called the courts and wrote them a letter asking for proof of the adoption of his children for child support purpouses. They sent us documents with it notorized that they were infact adopted. My husband then made copies of all the papers the court sent us and sent it off to the child support agency that was garnishing his pay(his exwife also sent them the papers). The child support then stopped. But we were also entitled to all the child support we paid to them back from the time his ex wife filed for the adoption. So you may want to check into that too, just to see if you will be entitled to any money back from the time of them FILING for adoption. We got all our money back because his exwife did actually pay all the money back to us that we paid out to her from the time they filed. She paid the money to the child support agency and the agency cut us the check everytime she sent them the money she owed us. Good luck to you. Call the courts where the adoption is going to be done and find out if you can get something in writing that the kids are now legally adopted and send it off to the child support agency.
