Emancipation of minors under age of 16

States: Washington, Alaska, Hawaii

My parents aren't suitable for taking care of me, my grandmother is the same, there is no where left for me to go. There is a family that wishes to adopt me but cps doesn't find anything wrong with my mother or father. When I asked them to check coustody files they didn't care and they just listen to what my mother said. My parents would never agree to letting the family adopt me and i feel that emancipation is needed but i am only 15 and I just turned 15. I was born in Alaska and I am currently staying with my grandmother in Hawaii, she is the same way as my parents. My parents both live in Washington. Please help me get out of this situation.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), there is only one state that will even consider emancipating a 15 year old and that state is neither Washington, Alaska, nor Hawaii. Nor is emancipation handed out on request - you need to convince a judge that emancipation is in your best interest and if CPS has established that your parents are taking suitable care of you that is not very likely to happen without parental consent.

Do you understand what emancipation entails? It does NOT mean that you get to move in with another family and/or be adopted. It means that you have to be entirely responsible for yourself, BY YOURSELF. You have to be able to pay BY YOURSELF for rent, food, insurance, travel, medical expenses, shampoo, shoes, movies, and whatever else has to be paid for, all the while still attending school.

I think you need to give up on the emancipation idea.

i was in similar shoes as you are. Im assuming that your 16 now though? i am as well, though i live in Alaska. Im working on getting emancipation myself, so if you ever wana talk my email is: krisiworld@yahoo.com.

and i say, if you beleive that you should be away from your parents then go for it! but emancipation wont allow you to be adopted....means that you have ta proce tha tyou havea job, and a budget, and be able to be an adult. which is hard ta do at 15 and 16.
