I am adopted

What is the name of your state? MI

I was born in 1946 in MI and adopted (privately) in 1949. As I am getting older, I would like to obtain information regarding my "biological" parents. I understand that MI has sealed records from 1945 - 1980. Doesn't seem fair to me! However, is there any way I can get this information. My adopted mother is 85 and does not remember what took place. Can you help me?

Jeez, probably not. I know in some cases of private adoption, unless your birth mother wants to find you, you're SOL.

Sorry. You might be able to hire an attorney and try to obtain the records, but is it worth the cost? Good luck. Hope someone else gives better advice.

You do realize it is entirely possible one or both bioparents are deceased by now? Biomom probably married and lived under a different name. Even if you unseal the records, the odds are really against you actually tracking her down after all this time. My husband, BTW, was born the same year. His dad died just before his birth, and he really knows nothing about his dad or dad's family (his mom was superstitious about talking about the dead) so even biokids don't necessarilly know anything much about their parents.

Thanks. I appreciate your time. Kind of ridiculous that a 57 year old woman can't get any info, but a 20 year old can. Doesn't make sense, does it?

Have a good day.

I am in Ohio. I was born in 1965 and adopted at 6 months of age. My family has not told me anything valuable to find my bio-parents. I sent $50.00 to probate court to get unidentifiable info. It did not help me to find parents because they were both alive at that time, presummably in their mid 60's. I cannot get any identifiable info until they are both deceased. Really sucks!!! And it really sucks when family knows about your adoption, but are unwilling to share info with you. Good luck, at least you may find some of your relatives alive.

Odds are your parents really know nothing more than they have told you. It's only in maybe the last 20 years that everything has become so open. Used to be that adoptive families and births fmilies went through third party agencies.

I am an adoptive mom, and I honestly know nothing but a name iof my daughter's birthmother, her age when my duaghter was born, how many prior pregnancies she had before my daughter (that is all part of my child's half page "meducal report"). Biofather listed an "unknown". NO reason. THAT'S IT!!!!!

Granted, her's was not a domestic asoption. But still, do not be angry at your parents for not sharing more info, they probably just don't know anything else to tell you.. I sure don't.
