interstate adoptionWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin My 18 year old daughter is pregnant and unmarried. She wishes to give the baby to her married brother to adopt. He lives in Utah. We are researching the simplest way to accomplish this. I am now wondering if she would sign over the guardianship of the child to her brother, then the child would be living in Utah. Could Utah adoption then take place? She is sure of her decision, and we would like to avoid the placement of the child in foster care for the 30 days until she can finalize her termination of parental rights. We also have discussed all the aspects of this arrangement, so the counseling required in Wisconsin is an unneeded expense. I would like to know what we are asking for, before we contract with our lawyers in WI and UT.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

| He is in agreement with the adoption, as we know that he would terminate his parental rights also. |

| Most specifically, can the adoption be done in Utah? My Daughter would sign guardianship of the child to her brother, and he would be caring for the child in Utah. We have both talked to many legal sources, and there seems to be such a variety of opinions. Thousands of uneeded dollars spent, and the child being put in foster care for the first 30 days are the things that we would like to avoid. |
