What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? LA
Hello, can someone help me with this question. My current husband wants to adopt my 2 yr old daughter. I was never married to her father and we do have a current child support order in place. He is willing to let my husband adopt her. He lives in FL and that is where our child support order is so FL had jurisdiction. Florida allows parents to file a petition for step parent adoptions if all parties agree. I am wondering though if we could still do that since me and my daugther no longer live in FL? I cannot get a straight answer from the clerk of court in FL.

I think you'd have to terminate dad's rights in FL and then adopt in your state. You WILL need a lawyer.

Why do you think this is a good idea?
