Question

name change and adoption

I live in Mighigan, but I am a resident of Texas. I am about to graduate from college, and I do not want my ex husbands name on my diploma, even though it is my legal name. I do not have time to make a legal name change. I do not want to use my maiden name, because it belongs to an adoptive stepparent who left us when I was 11. I want to use my middle name as my last name, which is my mothers maiden name. I have spoken to my school, and they do not know if this is legal. HELP. All of these men have given me names that I do not want. I am the one who has worked so hard to get this diploma, despite the crap they have put me through. I will be damned if I have to include them at all in my greatest accopmlishment. If may name is legally Jennifer Amy Smith Jones, can I simply have my diploma read Jennifer Amy Smith and have it be a legally acceptable document? I need answers preet fast. Thanks for your help.

I think I've answered this before on here. Yes, you can do it. I did it in Illinois anyway. My ex's name isn't on my college diploma. My maiden name is. And, it's a legal document that I provided a copy to my current employer of proof of my degree. The original is proudly displayed in my living room...forever. Believe me, I know what an accomplishment it is for you. Congratulations!

My problem is that I do not want to have my maiden name on there either. I want it to have my first name and my two middle names, the second which is my mothers maiden name. I do not want to have my former adoptive step parents name on their, because he is just as bad as my ex husband. I know that my maiden name would be legal, but is having my name without the Lundeen, my former adoptive name, or pawley my current name and the one of my ex. It is a very complicated matter. Do you have any clue about this? I have not found any answers, and I cannot afford to consult a lawyer. Thankd for the congrats...you too!
