Need help ASAP

My ex girlfriend recently got married and her new husband adopted out little girl. I was in jail and in treatment when this came about, and was told I should not contest it, due to my track record. When she was adopted did that terminate my duty to pay child support? My credit shows I owe 7000 in past child support. Do I have to pay this and if so, do I have any legal rights to be able to see my daughter?

When the child was adopted, your obligation for future child support ended.

However, if you owe anything for back support, you are still liable for that.

Your track record wouldn't be the determining factor on whether you can appeal the adoption or not.

Whether there were procedural or subtantive violations of the law would be what's at issue.

If the law was followed, then you're out of luck.

If it wasn't followed, it might be worth your while to appeal.

If there is not a Post-Adoption Contact Agreement in place, you do not have an enforceable right to see the child in the future.

However, you might be able to persuade your ex to allow you to if at some point in the future you clean up your act and she feels comfortable allowing you to see the child.

Otherwise, you'll have to wait till the child is 18.
