New father

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina

I am a single mother of a 2 & 1/2 year old boy from a previous relationship (12 years). I am getting married in Indiana in December. My fiance and I currently reside in South Carolina. . My son was born in Indiana. His biological father left us when I was 2 months pregnant. He has never seen his son and is not on the birth certificate. My fiance is wanting to adopt my son after we marry. I am assuming we go through Indiana for this and am just not sure of where we start this process. Where do we begin?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

attorney, attorney, ATTORNEY. this is NOT a do it yourself project.

however, hint one, your fiance needs to be your husband for at least one year before you begin the process. the thread listed right under yours, is a good reason to have an attorney handle the matter.

And no, it doesn't have to be done in Indiana. It can and should be done in the state where you reside.
