Question

Personal records

my Question is quite simple in 1973 myself and my siblings were seperated from one another and 2 of us were adopted out while the two eldest went into foster care I myself was adopted in 1975 and given up again in 1980 therefore i realy have no family to speak of except my sisters and brother that i was seperated from and i wish to find them now lorain county childrens services (in ohio) say the records including my own are sealed and although all of us are now adults refuse to give me access to any records concerning my biological family so my question is how can i legaly get these records so i can begin the search for my siblings???

first of all: how old was the youngest of you and your siblings. if any were in school before the adoptions started you can go through school records to find them. also there are #s you can call for help in finding them. they will ask for everything you know about them. most of the services unfortunately cost money. that's what's holding me back from finding my brother. to this day i still search for him. i have some news that he needs to find out.
if you have a computer at home you can order software that finds people, or you can look on the net. some sites i have used to find friends and other relatives are: http://www.nationallocatorservice.com/freesearch.html
www.switchboard.com
also at search.com you can type in people searches and it will list a bunch of different sites you can check out

Here's the thing the only way sealed records can be opened is by a court order. It is almost pointless to try and do it any other way. the only successful way to find out who we adoptees are , with closed records, is by hiring a private investigator. all they do is charge a large amount of money. the only thing they do is go back to your home town and look up births and deaths with the date of your birthday, they compare the information there with what you give them and then your on your own. they will continue to look but the fee increases the longer the search goes on. my advice is find out your birth last name and birth town, which done by comparing your information with something that closely relates what you know. Remember though that in the 70's, it was not uncoomon for birthdays to be switched by a cuple months. You can register with the courts stating you are interested in obtaing information from your biological parents they then compare your name with yor birthparents if they are registered. The trick is that you need to know your biological birth name. otherwise it will not work. in ohio it is a 35 dollar registration fee. I am not a lawyer but an adoptee desperatly trying to locate my birth family i have been at it for over five years and have come across a lot of walls. Although i am not thrilled with investigators, they do know a lot of people which can cut search time in half, but like i said it is expensive. I recomend you try needle in the haystack. it is on the internet and the first information gathering is public record so you will not get charged for her time. the rest is not free.
