Question

Private Adoption in Mass

What is the name of your state? MA

We are residents of Massachusetts in the process of adopting a baby that will be born in the state of Maine. Massachusetts is an "agency state" which does not allow private adoptions through an attorney. We have been told that we can finalize our adoption in Maine as a private adoption, even though we are Massachusetts residents. We have an attorney in Maine who is advising us as to Maine law. We are wondering if we will run into any legal issues in Massachusetts if we do this private adoption.

hello,

im in ca. so this may not apply to you, but i remember there being an issue that was addressed in my experience with adoption about taking the baby accross state lines before a certain amount of time. I remember there was a waiver signed that i believe allowed the baby to be taken to a different state, but it has been a while so its a little foggy. you might want to look into that though. And congratulations on being a mommy soon.

We got fed up with Taxachusetts law and moved. Hell, they only legalized tattoos last year or something. Beware of MA laws. I can't believe they don't do private adoptions, but it's not suprising really. The states are small there-see if you can find an atty legal in multiple states to ask. Good luck and congrats!
