| I am currently going through artificial insemination (by an anonymous donor--sperm bank) to become pregnant. When my baby is born my domestic partner (also a woman) and I would like for her to adopt our child so that we both have legal rights to the child. Where we live now (Chicago), second parent adoptions by lesbian partners has been done; so we know we could do it here. However, we may be moving soon but want to move somewhere where second parent adoptions (such as ours) has been done before. What states allow this type of second parent adoptions? Please help! Thanks. |

2nd parent adoptionMy partner and I (gay male couple) got a lot of help from the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Kate Kendall, Executive Director. We are in California. Our daughter was born 7/18/2000. Be sure it is very clear in your contract that you INTEND for your partner to go through a 2nd parent adoption and that you INTEND for her to participate in raising and providing for your child(ren: a friend had triplets with AI)! Hate to say this: have something in there that if you break up what will the arrangements be. Don't forget to take your folic acid BEFORE pregancy and during. All the best to you, your partner and your baby(ies). http://www.nclrights.org |
