Sibling adoption

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

Hi,

My step-father is terminally ill and has custody of my 5 year old half-brother. Our mother is deceased. I have spoken with my step-father recently about my half-brother coming to live with my husband and I, in the event that he passes.

My brother and step-father are currently living with family (his mom & dad), but he has stated that he would be more comfortable with my brother being with me.

My question is, what steps do we need to take in order for this to be a smooth transition?

Thank you for any help.

You should seek the assistance of a local adoption attorney - this is NOT a do-it-yourself project.

You need to speak to an attorney face to face. You can get a low cost consult by calling the Florida Bar Lawyer Refferal Service at 1-800-342-8011.
