sibling fosteringWhat is the name of your state? California I was wondering if anyone could help me on this matter? Is it possible for an emancipated mature minor (e.g aged 17 years) to take custody of a younger sibling (a minor) in the event of both parents being deceased or declared unfit to be the guardian of a child? THanks for your time. |

| I do not know what the law is, but I am sure if it was possible, the 17 year old would have to prove some MAJOR responsibility to the judge, like having a home established, a room for the child, a consistent job, things like that. I think they should, I mean there are 13 year olds out there having babies, what the difference. How old is the sibling? |

My response: Are you the 17 year old? If you are, are you legally emancipated? IAAL |

Iaal ----You get that butt of yours over to child custody and visitation and answer my question about establishing paternity. Please? Pretty please? With all the sugar, cherries, whip cream on top, or whatever your freaky little heart desires? |

| Thanks for that, it was just a hypothetical case: yes i am the 17 year old, my sibling is 11. I only wondered because relations with my father have completely broken down and so if anything happened to my mother we would probably be put into care. Which in my view is not a great thing. I know its a morbid thought, but you cant help worrying deep down sometimes! Thanks for helping with that ![]() |
