Can a step-father and bilogical mother start process of adoption without going through a family law agency or lawyer. And if so what are the steps. Have you heard of a Do-it-yourself adoption procedure?- an agency that says the adopters do the decision making and they do the paperwork for $300.00?

I personally think it's a case of being penny-wise and pound foolish. If it's not done right, it can cause a great deal of anguish and heartache - and the kid suffers. Spend the money and have it done right.

in my state an uncontested adoption can be done for 50 bucks and 5 minutes before a judge. And STILL we consulted a lawyer first.
