Step-Parent Adoption

What is the name of your state? KS

If all parties (mom,step-dad,bio-dad) are in agreement of an adoption, do you still have to "physically" go through all the legal steps such as actually "going" to court, trial etc. Or can the paperwork just be filed, processed and finalized etc... without "actually" having to go to court?

Court is necessary

As far as I know, it is the process of having the court sanction it (by going to court) that makes it legal. My DH was adopted by his stepdad, and his biodad was already deceaed 12 years at the time, yet court was still necessary. It was a very simple process, however.

When we did our daughter's "readoption" in Children's Court, it was a simple matter of obtaining the forms from them, filing, obtaining a court date, and showing up with our girl. That was about it.
