Step-Parent Adoption

What is the name of your state? New Jersey

While state laws may vary on this, IN GENERAL, in a step-parent or other in-family adoption, is the original birth certificate amended, changed or sealed in any way...or does it work in a similar fashion to a legal name-change?

Thank you.

There is a new birth certificate issued with *adoptive* parent(s) now listed as the father or mother. I was told that the old b/c was sealed with the adoption record.
