step-parent adoption background checksWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ (and possibly PA) My wife is starting the process of step-parent adoption (uncontested). We're going to a lawyer for an initial consult as many posts on here state to at least do that, but I figured we'd try to get some initial leg-work out of the way but even that is a bit of an issue. She has to get several background checks completed, however finding out where to get them done is quite elusive. the following description checks are straight from the Monmouth County surrogate's office:: 1) criminal history record information(CHRI) fingerprint background checks - We think this can be done at the police station as they offer a "fingerprint background check" but unsure if it includes everything necessary. 2) child abuse record information (CARI) - Google shows a few DYFS hits, but nothing on how to order such a check. 3) Domestic Violence Record check (DVC) - - Again, Google shows a few DYFS hits, but nothing on how to order such a check. Any advice on how/where to get these checks under way would be greatly appreciated. |
