Taking care of my little brother

I currently take care of my little brother. He's 8-years-old. I just got married and my husband and I don't know if we should apply for guardianship, gain custody or try to adopt. We just don't know which is the most appropriate for our situation. My mother and my brother's father are getting on in years and really don't live a lifestyle benificial to raising a young child. It's all very civil and mutually agreed that my husband and I can take much better care of my brother. The only snag in this is a time crunch. My husband I are both in the military but I'll soon be leaving the service. We'd like to get this done before we have to go overseas or something. We just want to get it on paper and make legal the arrangement we already have.

If everyone is in agreement then a guardianship is probably the most appropriate....and easiest/quickest thing to accomplish. If you use an attorney to do it you probably wouldn't even need to go to court. The attorney would simply draw up the paperwork, have everyone sign it, and then submit it to court for a judge's signature.
