What is the name of your state? Kansas

Could anyone give me information on terminating parental rights of a father that has abandoned his child in Kansas?

I would like to try and do this without a lawyer first.

My son was born in 2000- his biological father has been absent since 2003. I am now married (since 2004) and will eventually do a step-parent adoption, but would like to terminate the biological fathers rights first.

I have searched and searched online and can't find much about Kansas.

Thank you!

This is NOT a DIY project. You need an attorney. You also need to be prepared to do the step-parent adoption at roughly the same time. Not a few years down the road.
