| | | our case was very similar to yours. We lived together for four years, got married one day and went to a lawyer the next. Our lawyer filed a petition to adopt and the judge eventually waived the time of marriage requirement since we had lived as a family for those four years.
In Indiana the biological father has 30 days to respond to the petition. If he fails to responed his consent is said to be established.
There was also a paternity hearing and a paternity test. If biodad fails to participate (which in your case sounds likely) it goes much easier for you.
It is a process that needs a good lawyer. We had a consultation for only $50 and it was well worth it. |

the baby is only a year old. how do you convince a judge this is a long term relationship? |

i'm not saying i want to do it this very second, but i'm trying to see what i actually need to do so when they day does come, down the line, i have all my ducks in a row, so that it can all go very smoothly. |

I appreciate someone taking some real time to voice their own experience. Aside from this reply, everyone on here seems to be a little bit on the @$$ side... and I really regret seeking advice on this board. |
