Thumbs up

Thank you!

I started coming to this site well over a year ago. My husband and I started looking into a step parent adoption of my daughter. My ex husband had no contact and failed to pay court ordered support for over 2 1/2 years. I started doing my research here, and on the web. I had all of my papers and facts together before we presented it to a lawyer in late November. My husband filed for the adoption in early December. We had a difficult time trying to serve my ex. He refused to consent to the adoption and refused to be notified. We went through two process servers and finally a publication. Today was the day of our hearing. The judge asked me a lot of questions. The whole process took around 30 minutes before he said that my husband was now legally my daughters father. I couldn't help it, the tears of joy started flowing down my face. We are a family now. It was worth it, all of it to get where we are right now. From start to finish, it took 7 months. It would have only been 2 months if we could have had him served. The cost....$500.00 for attorney (sooo worth it!!), $165.00 for 2 process servers, $258.00 for a publication, .....the finalization of the adoption...PRICELESS!

I am so happy for you, your daughter, and your daughter's new daddy. I wish the three of you a lifetime of happiness. Take care.

Congrats!! Our step-parent adoption was finalized on Friday. You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO right.. it's a small price to pay for the piece of mind that it brings!! There are no more worries of having him but my children through hell or what happens if I get hit by a truck tomorrow..lol
