Why not?

What is the name of your state?sc
My new husband wants to adopt my child but the lawyer thinks it cant happen because he has a Family Violence charge on his background, but the way i see it, it didnt involve a child and it was years ago. Should I get a second opinion?

You can. And hopefully you'll provide the lawyer more info than you have to us.
