AlimonyWhat is the name of your state? minnesota I have a friend who is thinking about getting a divorce. His wife has been unemployed for about 2 months now. My friend was making pretty good money on a strict commission basis. Now that money has stopped and his wife refuses to get a job. What is the law on whether or not she will be able to collect alimony or spousal support? They do have three kids and child support is a given but will he have to support her when she refuses to support herself? |

| in Florida, yes. I'm not sure about the other states. If she requests alimony, even if she were employed, as long as he makes more than she does she'll get it. |

| Depending on the circumstances, she may or may not get alimony. However, I found this site for you: http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/stats/518/552.html Those are the guidelines for spousal maintenance in Minnesota.

| CAPrincess is correct. It all depends on the circumstances and how long they were married. Sometimes, temporary spousal support is awarded...which only lasts for a short time.
