Alimony

What is the name of your state? minnesota

I have a friend who is thinking about getting a divorce. His wife has been unemployed for about 2 months now. My friend was making pretty good money on a strict commission basis. Now that money has stopped and his wife refuses to get a job. What is the law on whether or not she will be able to collect alimony or spousal support? They do have three kids and child support is a given but will he have to support her when she refuses to support herself?

in Florida, yes. I'm not sure about the other states. If she requests alimony, even if she were employed, as long as he makes more than she does she'll get it.

Depending on the circumstances, she may or may not get alimony.
However, I found this site for you:

Those are the guidelines for spousal maintenance in Minnesota.

Thumbs up

CAPrincess is correct. It all depends on the circumstances and how long they were married. Sometimes, temporary spousal support is awarded...which only lasts for a short time.

Yes, my hard drive went into overdrive and almost crashed. Good thing for the Trojan protection.
