alimony

What is the name of your state? wv I am thinking of leaving my husband, because he is very, very verbaly abusive and sometimes physically abusive also. I left before, but came back, because things were supposed to be " different" this time. He owns the house and his parents own the land it sits on, so I know that they really own the home because of that. We've been married four years. And I have done much home improvements on the house, as for painting and such. Do I have the right to anything from this man? We have no children together. When I left before, I said I didn't want anything from him. But, now, I feel used, and I feel he has taken even more of my life from me, only to twist it into knots. I am 49 years old, and a waitress. He is an R.N. I worked and helped to put him through school, and care for his two daughters. And now, what, if anything, am I entitled to. signed...."the dumb idiot"

I'll let the ladies handle this one.

I'm dangerous when I have visions of dull kitchen knives and Lorena Bobbit dancing in my head

My response:

With the exception of things that you bought, you're not entitled to anything else. Your marriage was for too short of a term, and during those four years, you had a roof over your head.
