AlimonyNew York State- I have been married for 6 years, recently seperated because he was caught cheating. We have 2 children together. I work making 48000 a year, he's a self employed attorney, who has great potential. Can I file for alimony? |

| 48K/yr certainly seems like an amount that would leave you self supporting.... especially if you will be the custodial parent receiving child support.

| I agree...unless perhaps you worked and put him through law school, (without student loans) but even then, its more likely that his law license would be considered to be marital property and a present value put on that and divided.
