AlimonyI reside in NC. My husband left me in 99. Neither of us have filed for a divorce yet. I haven't simply due to lack of funds. I'm not sure why he hasn't. Is it possible to be granted alimony after being apart all this time? When he left he wiped out the checking account, plus took the new car leaving me with a car that didn't run well, which by the way is still in his name. He won't transfer the title, which leads me to another question, but later with that one. |

| It's less likely that you would get spousal support now than at the beginning of the split. The obvious argument is that you apparently have been fine without it so far and why should it be imposed now. I don't know if that is actually the case, but that's the argument he and his attorney would make. The cleaned out account and car issues can be dealt with in a final hearing or final settlement agreement. Good luck to you.... |

| Thank you for responding. Actually, I have not been doing fine. Today I am in the process of filing bankruptcy as a result of the separation, however, I do understand how the courts might see it. |

| That would certainly work in your favor, if you were to request spousal support. |
