Question

alimony ends at death

What is the name of your state? ohio

my attorney boss had a nasty divorce in 1996. she got almost everything. the divorce decree said he pays alimony for the rest of her life (she hasn't worked a day since they got married - marriage lasted about 26 years). At divorce, she asked for life insurance on him to cover her if he died (no more alimony). judge decreed 10 years of life insurance ($100,000.00) and that she and my boss each pay half of premium each year. she is to be beneficiary, etc. he died a week ago. now she's trying to break the will (she's not in the will), etc. and also says she had "open ended alimony" and the estate has to pay for her alimony until she dies. can this be possible? the will says i have to close down the law firm, but no one is named executor and i and his sister are the only ones named in the will - very bad family relations for years - his 2 kids are possibly named beneficiaries in stocks, etc. i worked there 11 years, he was a solo practitioner and no one else worked for us all these years. i am a signatory on the law firm bank account but not on any of his personal accounts.
