Alimony Fraud

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon

My ex and I divorced in 1999. Our alimony agreement required me to pay $600 per month until she remarried. In Dec. of 2000 she advised me that she had married in the state of Oregon and I discontinued paying alimony.

Today, I was shown a nevada marriage licence indicating that she had actually married the same man in April of 2000. Nine months before the Oregon wedding.

Can I claim a refund for the alimony paid over the 9 months she was already married? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Nothing stated by me should be taken as giving you legal advice or forming an attorney/client relationship. The devil is in the details after all.

Except that he stated that he had seen a marriage LICENSE. A license does not prove that an actual marriaged happened, only that they applied for a license.

They might have applied for the license and then decided against a Vegas marriage.

This whole thing could be cleared up by requiring every state to enact laws to require that an alimony receiving spouse, whose remarriage terminates the alimony, to report the remarriage to the paying spouse AND the court having jusisdiction within 10 business days. Failure to do so would result in contempt of court including incarceration, civil penalties, repayment of alimony with interest and lawyer fees.

It's time to hold deadbeats ACCOUNTABLE!!
