Alimony Laws in NCWhat is the name of your state? NC What type of alimony could I expect if my husband of 5 years chooses to leave and divorce me? He has worked 31 years in the automotive industry making app. 65-75,000 yr. I presently make 25,000 year in my job. Would it be any different if he files for the divorce in the state of Michigan? |

| You have a job. Why would you want to continue your relationship with him by demanding alimony?

| Hopefully, when you've been "on the job" for 30 + years, you will have worked your way up from entry level pay range too. Why does the fact that he has done that mean that he should pay you alimony for such a short term marriage?

| Generally speaking, a 5 year marriage is not going to be considered long term for purposes of alimony. You apparently don't have kids with him, so it's going to come down to splitting your assets and debts and going your own separate ways. I realize that it's a difficult position you're in, but it would be to your advantage to make a decision on how to proceed, and if you intend to divorce to file first. Otherwise, you're going to be going back to MI for all the legal proceedings. |
