alimony/maintenance

What is the name of your state? sc

I wish I'd known about this site before I went thru my divorce! The replies regarding alimony or maintenance as its called here, are really interesting. Can anyone address this issue as it relates to sc. I'm paying maint. to my ex and to this day i don't know why. We both worked throughout the marriage. I made more than she did at the time but it was production so it fluctuated from wk to wk. In fact we both got laid off from work w/i wks of each other. I pay child support which I have no problem with, the money from the sale of our home was divided equally and she even got property i had before we were married. She filed for divorce on the grounds of adultery, which was not granted because it didn't happen, however, there was proof of her adulterous affairs but none of that seems to matter. I'm now remarried, she (my ex) has a career and is healthy and self supporting and our child is 17. I want to know why I'm still under an order to pay her maint., and is there a way to get this order terminated? This man needs help!!!!

Spousal support can usually be modified at any time in which there has been a change in circumstances. In order to have a modification take place you must file an order with the court. The evidence must be completely new to the court. Any issues addressed previously in the spousal support arrangements are not means for modification.
