Can I change Jobs before Divorce is finalWhat is the name of your state? New York Hi, I am getting divorced, have 3 kids, 19, 16 and 13.. paying all the required support, etc. Because of circumstances which I cannot get into here, I talk to my kids all the time, but dont get to see them much.. less than 3 times since August of last year. I currently earn approx 110+bonus here in New York and my wife earns approx 15K Can I get a new job in another state, if it is less money ?For example, if I move to Florida where pay scale is lower, can I take a job for 90K and not get in trouble? How does that work? I would imagine some law would prevent me from changing jobs before the divorice.. or maybe not. P.S. If I do move, I plan on seeing the kids on a regular basis.. dont want you to think I am skipping town.. thanks |

| You can do as you like. But you should expect that the court will likely impute you to your 110k salary anyway since your decrease in income is voluntary. As for your statements: "I talk to my kids all the time, but dont get to see them much.. less than 3 times since August of last year." "If I do move, I plan on seeing the kids on a regular basis" Uuuuh, what's gonna change when there's more distance between you that will make it MORE likely that you'll see them more regularly than 3 times in 7+ months? |

| Interesting point. IF CP has the kids in another state (especially if they were moved away from the NCP) , one with a lower payscale, he should have a right to live near his kids so he can see them regularly - even if it means a few bucks less income.

| Agreed. IF that were the situation. But, based on previous posts, it isn't. He has immediate family in FL, but the kids are in NY. |
