Can Past Alimony Go Away? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? UT
My wife's ex-husband is very behind in child support and alimony. We have the Office of Recovery Services trying to collect payments. They have told him that if he doesn't pay it all in 30 days, they will suspend his driver's license. He told my wife if that happens he'll go to court and get the judge to waive past alimony and child support, thus causing him to pay a lawyer and not my wife.
Is there any way possible that he could actually get the courts to drop what he owes?
I don't think he can because not even bankruptcy will alleviate back child support and alimony, but I would like another opinion.
